I couldn't agree with Bruce Webster more. The most valuable idea here is the one about the running order being imprinted. I MUST have "Wild Honey Pie" and "Revolution 9." I'm just realizing how right I was when I talked about The White Album being the most significant artistic achievement of my lifetime.
The key question is, would the “White” album be as iconic today if it was just another classic Beatles album? If it was more or less another “Rubber Soul” or “Revolver?”
This question, however, assumes that the “White” album is great *because* of its filler, it’s wild tangles of kudzu woven between proper Beatles song craft.
The only way to analyze this is to give Justin’s edited version a few spins from front to back. That’s what I am going to do. I have created a Spotify playlist for this new version, and cheekily titled it “The White Justin Album.” It’s a much tighter album already, down to just 49 minutes and change.
The first listen or two will be awkward because anticipatory echoes of those excised tracks will still be there. But just from reading Justin’s new track list, I think this is a SOLID ALBUM. I can appreciate the care taken to preserve pacing and momentum.
And lastly, thank you for the mention! I really hadn’t expected that! I’m going to go listen to The White Justin Album now. Cheers!
Seeing you omit "Cry Baby Cry" makes me sad, but not as much as them now breaking off "Can You Take Me Back" as a separate song.
With the exception of that, though, we're pretty close. All the songs you picked are in my top 90. Nicely done.
I'm going to go back and re-listen to Cry Baby Cry.

Take THAT, "Saving Private Ryan."
I've always felt like you and Brian (not Bruce) should meet.
